Why

I have been battling progressive metabolic issues since I was 19, or possibly earlier than that undiagnosed.  My symptoms started with hyperlipidemia in 1991.  Around 2006, I was diagnosed with Type 2 Diabetes.  In 2012, I finally went in for a sleep study, after keeping my wife up for years with my snoring, where I was diagnosed with sleep apnea.  I had also gone from around 165 lbs when I graduated high school to just shy of 240 lbs in 2009.

When I was originally diagnosed with hyperlipidemia, I started treatment with statins and tried several eating strategies to try to control my cholesterol and triglyceride levels.  I was vegetarian for a while and I followed the Atkins Diet for a while.  I was able to have limited success on both diets but neither was sustainable long term for various reasons.

At the end of 2014, my mother passed away in her late 60's from complications related to non-alcoholic steatohepatitis.  This tragic event caused me to refocus my attention on the importance of achieving and maintaining optimal health.  I look at her passing as her final gift to me in that she gave me the motivation I needed to repair my metabolic system and hopefully add decades to my life.  Since her passing, I have reversed, or I am in the process of reversing, all of the health issues I have developed over the years.  I have also lost most of the weight that I gained since high school.

I have created this blog so that I can share what I have learned about nutrition, fitness, pharmaceuticals, supplements and any other information I have collected and been successful with.  I am by no means an expert in any of these subjects and there are thousands of people who know much more than I do about these subjects, but, if you are reading this, you have ended up at my blog for whatever reason, and since you are here, I want to share the knowledge I have and help you find your way to others that can help.
